Northwestern Georgia is two regions in one: Svaneti, the high stone-tower country reached by a long mountain road, and Samegrelo, the wet subtropical lowlands around Zugdidi and the Enguri. They share a road but not a climate. Most travellers come for Svaneti and treat Samegrelo as the transit day. Do the reverse only if you want canyons, caves and hot springs without altitude.
