North East Nigeria covers Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe — about a third of Nigeria's land area and over 30 million people. The Mambilla Plateau, Gashaka Gumti National Park and the Sukur Cultural Landscape are the headline sights, but Boko Haram and ISWAP are active in Borno, Yobe and parts of Adamawa, and the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand all advise against travel to at least parts of this region. Treat this page as orientation, not a green light: check your own government's advice state by state before booking anything.
