Normandy is a rural region with slow trains and no high-speed rail. Pick one base — Bayeux for the tapestry and D-Day beaches, Caen for transport and museums, Rouen for the Seine Valley and Giverny — and drive out from there. Trying to cover Rouen, the beaches and Mont-Saint-Michel from a single hotel means 2–3 hours in the car each day.

Coastal Normandy
Mild, changeable and rainier than most of France; sea breezes keep the coast cooler than inland in summer.

Late spring and early autumn give the best mix of weather and smaller crowds at the tapestry, Giverny and Mont-Saint-Michel. June brings D-Day commemorations and full hotels.
