Nin
Half-day trip from Zadar (25 min drive) for the sandy beach and 9th-century church, or a quiet overnight if you want the mud spa and salt pans.
Nin is a compact walled town on a lagoon, reachable by a short bus or car ride from Zadar. Its main draws are the tiny Church of the Holy Cross (9th century), a long sandy beach and therapeutic mud baths. Most travellers see it in a few hours, but the salt pans and spa justify a night.
