Nieuwpoort
Give Nieuwpoort one full day, or two nights if you want beach time: the old town and the coast are 4 km apart, linked by the coastal tram.
Nieuwpoort is two places in one: a small medieval town on the Yser with a UNESCO belfry, and Nieuwpoort-Bad, a beach strip with apartments and a 500 m pier into the North Sea. The coastal tram links them in about 10 minutes. It is a beach-and-history stop, not a city break: one day covers the sights, two nights adds sand and cycling.

Get around
The coastal tram (de Kusttram) is the backbone: it runs from De Panne to Knokke and links Nieuwpoort-Stad, the harbour and Nieuwpoort-Bad; check current timings in the De Lijn app. Walking is best inside each centre; a bike is the practical way to cover both plus the dunes and the Frontzate cycle path.

- Blue-zone parking in Nieuwpoort-Bad fills by mid-morning in summer.
Nieuwpoort is a low-crime resort town; the real risks are cold water and rip currents at the beach, and bicycles on the promenade. Watch your footing on the pier and keep an eye on children near the harbour mouth.
