The honest verdict

Nicosia's old town sits inside a Venetian wall shaped like a star, and a buffer zone crosses it. The trips that go wrong walk the walls at 14:00 in July, arrive by the north without knowing the rules, or plan the crossing without a passport. Four clusters cover a first visit: the Ledra Street and Laiki Geitonia lanes, the Famagusta Gate quarter, the Cyprus Museum by Paphos Gate, and Makarios Avenue on the new-town edge.
