The southern Nicosia district is the capital plus a ring of hill villages 30–60 minutes out. Sleep in Nicosia: the old town, the Cyprus Museum and the Green Line crossing are all walkable, and the villages — Machairas, Fikardou, the wine country toward Omodos — are day-trips by hire car. Without a car you are limited to the city and one or two bus routes.
