Niagara-on-the-Lake (NOTL) is a small colonial-era town at the mouth of the Niagara River, 20–25 min north of Niagara Falls. It was the first capital of Upper Canada and is now a wine-country base: dozens of wineries, the Shaw Festival from April to November, and Fort George. Most visitors come for one night, or as a day trip from the Falls.
