Newport News is a working port and shipbuilding city on the James River, not a resort. Its two strong sights — the Mariners' Museum with the USS Monitor Center, and the Virginia Living Museum — sit a few minutes apart on J. Clyde Morris Boulevard, and the rest of the city is spread along two long north–south roads.
