New Philadelphia is the county seat of Tuscarawas County in northeast Ohio, about 18,000 people, paired with Dover just to the northwest. The two run as one town. It is a car stop on I-77 between Canton and Cambridge, roughly 90 minutes from Cleveland, Columbus and Pittsburgh, and the reason to sleep here is the surrounding county: Schoenbrunn Village, Fort Laurens, Zoar, the Warther carvings and Amish Country in Holmes County. Downtown is a laid-out copy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the post office copies Independence Hall. Two nights covers the town and one day of the county; one night is enough if you are only breaking a drive.
