New Mexico is one long corridor: the Rio Grande runs north–south through Taos, Santa Fe, Albuquerque and Las Cruces, with mountains on both sides. Fly into Albuquerque (ABQ), rent a car, and sleep in two bases rather than moving every night. Santa Fe for art, adobe and pueblo day-trips; Albuquerque for the airport, food and Route 66. The northwest (Chaco, Navajo Nation) and the southeast (Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands) are each their own trip — 3–5 hours of driving from the corridor.
