New Harmony is a small Ohio River town in Southwestern Indiana, population about 790, built on two 19th-century utopian experiments: George Rapp's Harmony Society (1814) and Robert Owen's communitarian community (1825). The whole town is about nine blocks, walkable in an afternoon, with surviving Harmonist buildings, two labyrinths and a Richard Meier visitors centre. Most travellers see it as a half-day stop off I-64 or a quiet one-night base.

Get around
Walk. The historic core is roughly nine blocks end to end and flat. A car is needed only for Harmonie State Park and for arriving or leaving; golf-cart rentals are a local option in town. No public transit inside New Harmony.
