Nefyn
Go for 1–2 nights if you want a quiet Llŷn beach base with a famous pub walk; skip if you need rail, nightlife or phone signal.
Nefyn is a small seaside village on the north coast of the Llŷn Peninsula in Gwynedd, with a sandy bay, a cliff-top golf course and the beach-access Tŷ Coch Inn at Porthdinllaen. There is no railway station; you arrive by car or by bus from Pwllheli. One or two nights covers the beach, the coast path and the pub walk, and it works well as a low-key base for the western Llŷn.

Get around
A car is the realistic option: the A497 runs 7 miles (about 11 km (6.8 mi)) north from Pwllheli, and the sights around the peninsula are spread out. Buses 8 and 27 link Pwllheli with Nefyn and Dinas, but service is thin, especially on Sundays. On foot, the beach, the golf course and the Porthdinllaen path are all within about 30 minutes of the village.A car is the realistic option: the A497 runs 7 miles (about 6.8 mi (11 km)) north from Pwllheli, and the sights around the peninsula are spread out. Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake at first meeting; 'hi' and first names quickly; avoid: Cheek kisses with strangers
- Conversation: Weather is a safe opener; understatement and self-deprecating humour; avoid: Asking about salary or class
- Queues: Join at the back; avoid: Pushing onto buses or trains before others get off
- Apologies: 'Sorry' is said constantly, even when not at fault; avoid: Taking it as an admission of blame
- Pubs: Buy rounds in a group; wait at the bar without waving money; avoid: Clicking fingers at staff

Scams and watch-outs
- No mobile signal from any carrier west of the A499 (as of Aug 2022): download maps and tickets before you arrive.
- Tŷ Coch Inn has no vehicle access and takes no bookings: walk in across the beach and expect a queue at peak times.
- Porthdinllaen and Nefyn beaches have no lifeguard cover outside the main season: check local signage before swimming.
- Narrow lanes with high hedges and passing places: drive slowly and expect tractors.
A low-crime rural village; the real risks are coastal: cold water, no lifeguards out of season, cliff edges on the coast path, and no mobile signal to call for help.
