Narashino
習志野
Skip unless you have a specific reason: the tidal flat, the rose garden or a sumo stable visit. Half a day from Tokyo or Chiba is enough.
Narashino is a bedroom and industrial suburb on the Sobu Line, 30–40 min from Tokyo Station. It has three distinct draws: the Yatsu-higata tidal flat (a Ramsar wetland for migratory birds), the Yatsu Rose Garden (6,000 blooms in May and October) and Ōnomatsu-beya, a sumo stable that sometimes lets visitors watch morning practice. None of these is a full-day reason to come, but they work as a quiet half-day detour if you are already in Chiba.

Scams and watch-outs

- The tidal flat has no shade; bring a hat and water in summer.
- Rose garden opening hours vary by season; check the official site before going.
Narashino is a safe suburban city. The main risks are traffic on the main roads and summer heat at the tidal flat.
