Naran
ناران
One night is enough to see Saif-ul-Malook Lake and walk the bazaar; two if you want to hike or push on to Babusar Pass. Naran is a summer-only stop, not a base.
Naran is a busy mountain resort in the Kaghan Valley, the main gateway to Saif-ul-Malook Lake and the start of the Babusar Pass road to Gilgit-Baltistan. The bazaar is crowded in summer, the weather stays cool (rarely above 15 °C), and the real draw is the lake and the surrounding alpine hikes. Most travellers use it as a one-night stop between Mansehra and the north.

Scams and watch-outs
- Naran is a summer-only destination: from November to April heavy snow blocks the road and most businesses close.
- The bazaar gets very crowded in July and August; book accommodation ahead.
- Saif-ul-Malook Lake access is by jeep only; the road is rough and can be closed after rain.
- Altitude is about 2,500 m; take it easy on the first day if you are coming from lowland Pakistan.
Naran is safe for tourists in summer; petty theft is rare. The main risks are road accidents on the narrow mountain roads and altitude sickness for those coming from sea level. Avoid hiking alone after dark.
