Nanaimo

Give Nanaimo one night as a ferry stop between Vancouver and Tofino or Victoria; two nights only if you want the harbour and a day trip.

Nanaimo is the central hub of Vancouver Island and the island's second-largest city, reached from Vancouver by two BC Ferries car routes or a fast passenger ferry. Most travellers pass through on the way to Tofino, Victoria or Campbell River; the downtown harbour, the old Bastion and the waterfront walk are worth a stop of one or two nights. Summer is dry and mild, winter is wet and grey.
