Naina Devi
Half a day for the temple and the view; skip if you are short on time in Himachal — the shrine is the only reason to stop.
Naina Devi is a hill town in Bilaspur district, known almost entirely for the Shri Naina Devi Temple on a ridge above the Gobind Sagar reservoir. The temple draws pilgrims year-round and a big fair during the nine-day Navratri festival. Beyond the shrine there is little else: no trekking, no cafés, no nightlife. Most visitors come for a few hours and leave.

Scams and watch-outs
- Crowds during Navratri (twice a year, dates vary); the temple can be packed and queues long.
- Monsoon landslides can block roads; check conditions before travelling July–September.
- No ATMs near the temple; carry cash.
- The 2008 stampede is a reminder to avoid peak crowds and follow police instructions.
Very safe for pilgrims and tourists. The main risk is crowd pressure during festivals; avoid the busiest hours and follow any police cordons.
