Murtosa
Give Murtosa one full day, two if you cycle: lagoon beaches, boatyards and eel-canning history, 30 min by car from Aveiro. Skip it as a base without a car.
Murtosa is a small municipality on the Ria de Aveiro, split between the lagoon town and the Atlantic beach village of Torreira. It has one of Portugal's highest rates of bicycle use, so the best way to see it is on two wheels. Most travellers pass through from Aveiro or Ovar; one night is enough, two if you want beach time.
