Go for one night if tanks and heath interest you: the German Tank Museum is the reason to come, and the town itself fills half a day.
Munster (Örtze) is a 15,000-person garrison town on the River Örtze in the Lüneburg Heath, roughly midway between Hamburg, Bremen and Hanover. Almost half its area is military training ground, which is why the German Tank Museum sits here and why the surrounding heath stayed open. It is a one-night stop, not a base: the museum, a small old-town core, and heather in bloom in July and August.
