Give Muharraq one half-day on foot for the Pearling Path and souq, and sleep in Manama: there are no bars and few beds here.
Muharraq is Bahrain's former capital and its third-largest city, on an island joined to Manama by three causeways. Pearling ran the economy here until the 1930s, and the UNESCO Pearling Path links 17 restored merchant and diver houses, Abu Mahir Fort and offshore oyster beds. It is a conservative district: sights close early, alcohol is not sold, and most travellers visit on foot in a half-day and sleep in Manama.

Get around
No useful bus network for visitors: use a taxi or a hire car. The Pearling Path is walkable end to end in about 1.5–2 h, but the souq, Abu Mahir Fort and Arad Fort are separate stops, so plan on short drives between them.
