Morehead City is the working harbour town of the Crystal Coast: a seafood waterfront on Bogue Sound, a straight commercial spine along Arendell Street, and the bridge that gets you onto Bogue Banks. It is not a beach town — the sand is across the sound in Atlantic Beach and Emerald Isle. Come for the fish market, the boats and the festivals, and treat it as the mainland half of a beach trip.

Get around
There is no public bus network in town; a car is the practical default. Carteret County Area Transportation System (CCATS) runs reservation-only rides for the county — call ahead, fares from about $2.50. Taxis exist but are call-only. Downtown is walkable once you have parked; the bridge to Atlantic Beach is a short drive, not a walk.
