Montauk is the eastern tip of Long Island's South Fork, a fishing harbour and beach hamlet inside the town of East Hampton. It is a summer place: the lighthouse, six state parks and the party bars fill from June to September, and the LIRR runs all the way out from Manhattan. Two nights covers the point, the beaches and one boat or trail day; without a car or bike you will spend the trip waiting.
