Mont-Joli
Stop for one night if you arrive by train or plane; otherwise pass through — the town itself is a 2–3 hour walk, not a destination.
Mont-Joli is a small Gaspésie town of about 6,300 people at the eastern end of Autoroute 20, and it works as a transport hinge rather than a sight. VIA Rail's Ocean train, Orléans Express buses and Mont-Joli Airport (YYY) all meet here, so it is a practical first or last night on the Gaspé Peninsula loop. Two hours covers the church and the town murals; the real draw is what lies within an hour by road.
