Monemvasia
Μονεμβασία
One night is enough to see the fortress town and have dinner in the Lower Town; two nights if you want to walk the Upper Town ruins and relax. A day-trip from Sparta or Nafplio is too rushed.
Monemvasia is a medieval fortress town carved into a rock off the coast of Laconia, connected to the mainland by a short causeway. Its Lower Town is a living settlement of stone houses and churches, while the abandoned Upper Town crowns the summit with ruins and views. Most visitors see it in one night, but two nights let you slow down and explore the upper ruins.
