Moelfre
Stay 1–2 nights if you want a quiet Anglesey coast base with coastal walking; skip it as a day trip unless you have a car.
Moelfre is a small east-coast village on Anglesey, once a fishing and lifeboat community, with a rocky shore, a working RNLI station and easy access to Lligwy Beach and the prehistoric site at Din Lligwy. It suits travellers who already have a car and want a low-key coastal base rather than a resort.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake at first meeting; 'hi' and first names quickly; avoid: Cheek kisses with strangers
- Conversation: Weather is a safe opener; understatement and self-deprecating humour; avoid: Asking about salary or class
- Queues: Join at the back; avoid: Pushing onto buses or trains before others get off
- Apologies: 'Sorry' is said constantly, even when not at fault; avoid: Taking it as an admission of blame
- Pubs: Buy rounds in a group; wait at the bar without waving money; avoid: Clicking fingers at staff
- Nations: Call Scots Scottish and Welsh Welsh; avoid: Calling the whole UK 'England'
Scams and watch-outs
- The coast here is exposed in nor'easterly weather; keep back from the rocks and check tide times before walking the shore.
- Bus services are infrequent and can be reduced on Sundays; check the timetable before you rely on it.
- Many cafés and small businesses close out of season; check opening before travelling in winter.
- Mobile signal can be patchy along the coast path; download offline maps.
Moelfre is a quiet, low-crime village. The real risks are the sea and the weather: check tides, keep back from exposed rocks in nor'easterly conditions, and carry waterproofs.
