Miramichi
Give Miramichi one night, two if you fish or tube the river: it is a river town, not a city break, and you need a car to see it.
Miramichi is a spread-out town of about 18,000 in northern New Brunswick, formed from Newcastle and Chatham, whose two centres sit 13 km apart on opposite banks of the river. It calls itself Canada's Irish Capital and its best days are on the water: tubing, boat tours, salmon fishing. Sights are few and scattered, so a car matters more here than a long list of stops.
