Milton
Skip Milton unless you need a toilet stop or a bed on the Dunedin–Invercargill run: the town has a museum, glow worms and a motel, but nothing that justifies a detour.
Milton is a small town of about 2,000 people on SH1, 50 km south of Dunedin. Its streets are named after British writers, and the main reason to stop is the Tokomairiro Historical Society museum in the old Art Deco post office. The glow-worm tunnel in Manuka Gorge is a short side trip. Most travellers pass through in 15 minutes.
