Milton Keynes is a 1960s planned new town in Buckinghamshire, 35–40 min by train from London Euston. It is not a classic sightseeing city: the draw is Bletchley Park, the codebreaking museum, plus the National Museum of Computing next door, the concrete cows, Willen Lake and the older villages of Stony Stratford and Wolverton that the new town absorbed. Most visitors come for one specific reason and stay one or two nights.

Get around
The city is built around cars: main roads run in a grid of numbered H and V roads with roundabouts, and the roads look alike, so use a map. Buses are frequent from most estates to the centre, the station and Bletchley. Pedestrians and cyclists have the 'redways', red-tarmac paths that follow the grid but cross it by bridges and underpasses; they are poorly signposted and easy to get lost on. Taxis and rideshare work from the station and the centre.
