Midway
Midway, Kentucky
Give Midway half a day: walk Main Street, eat one long lunch, then sleep in Lexington. Stay only if you booked a horse-farm inn.
Midway is a one-street railroad town of about 1,600 people, halfway between Lexington and Frankfort on the old Lexington & Ohio line. The draw is a compact historic Main Street of restored storefronts, a handful of serious kitchens, and surrounding Thoroughbred farms. Most travellers see it in three to five hours and base in Lexington.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- No train or bus service to Midway; without a car you are dependent on rideshare, which can be thin outside Lexington.
- Many Main Street shops close Sunday and Monday; check hours before a special trip.
- Horse farms are private working businesses: view from the road unless a tour is booked.
- Summer afternoons are humid; plan the walk for morning.
Very low street crime; the real risks are narrow farm-road shoulders, deer at dusk and summer heat. Lock the car and keep valuables out of sight in Lexington lots.
