Merritt Island is a 90 km-long strip of Brevard County between the Indian River and the Banana River, and the home address of Kennedy Space Center and the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. There is no town centre to walk: it is a car place of causeways, strip malls and launch-view causeways. Two nights covers the space centre plus a refuge drive; one night is enough if you only want the visitor complex.

Get around
Car or rideshare only: there is no public bus on the island. Uber and Lyft will run the causeway routes; taxis often refuse. I-95 exits 205A/205B serve the island, and FL-528 becomes A1A at the Cocoa Beach end.
