Merrickville is a village of about 1,200 people on the Rideau Canal in eastern Ontario, roughly 75 km south of downtown Ottawa and 22 km from Smiths Falls. It is a compact strip of 19th-century stone buildings along St Lawrence Street, a working lockstation and a national historic blockhouse. Most visitors come for a summer day trip; one night is enough to see it without rushing.
