Mengla is a small border county town in southern Xishuangbanna, on the road between Jinghong and the Boten crossing into Laos. Travellers use it for two things: a bed before or after the border, and rainforest and botanical-garden day trips that need a car or a tour. The town itself is a market street and a bus terminal; the sights are 30–80 km out.
