Maynooth is a university and commuter town 30 km west of Dublin, on the Royal Canal and the Dublin–Sligo rail line. The old seminary campus and a Fitzgerald castle ruin sit 200 m from the station, so it works as a quiet, cheaper bed for Dublin days or as a stop on the way west. Sights are few and close together; the town is a base, not a destination in itself.

Get around
The centre is flat and walkable: station to castle is about 5 minutes. Commuter trains run roughly twice an hour to Dublin Connolly in about 40 min; Dublin Bus C3/C4 and Bus Éireann 115 serve Main Street. Buses stop on the street, there is no bus station. For Celbridge, Castletown and Straffan you need a bus, bike or car.
