Mathura is a Krishna pilgrimage city on the Yamuna, 150 km south of Delhi and 50 km north of Agra, and most trains between the two stop here. The temple core around Holi Gate and Vishram Ghat is walkable and busy; the sights that matter take half a day, and Vrindavan is 10 km further on. Come for the temples, the ghat aarti and the milk sweets, not for a long stay.
