Matabari
Half a day is enough for the Tripura Sundari Temple, the main reason to come. Combine it with Udaipur (Tripura) or Melaghar on the same day.
Matabari is a pilgrimage town 50 km south of Agartala, home to the Tripura Sundari Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. The temple is the draw; the town itself has little else for tourists. Most visitors come for the morning or evening aarti and leave the same day.

Scams and watch-outs
- Temple timings: closed 2–3:30 PM for the deity's rest; plan around that.
- Animal sacrifices (he-goat, buffalo, pigeon) occur daily after 12:30 PM; sensitive visitors may want to avoid that window.
- Diwali Puja draws large crowds; book transport and accommodation well ahead.
- Carry small notes for offerings and prasad (₹15 coupon for temple prasad).
Matabari is safe for tourists. The main concerns are temple crowds during festivals, heat in summer, and monsoon flooding on rural roads. Keep valuables secure in crowds.
