Marrakech splits into three usable zones. The medina holds Jemaa el-Fnaa, the souks, the Ben Youssef madrasa and Bahia Palace, all walkable from each other. South of the walls sit the Saadian Tombs, the Kasbah and the Mellah. North-west, outside the walls, are the new town (Gueliz) and Jardin Majorelle, reached by taxi in about 10–15 minutes from Jemaa el-Fnaa.
Distances inside the medina are short but slow: allow 20–25 minutes for Jemaa el-Fnaa to Bahia Palace, more with a wrong turn. Use the main signed lanes and ask shopkeepers rather than following anyone who offers to guide you for free.

Getting there
Marrakech Menara Airport is about 15–20 minutes from the medina by taxi. Agree the price before you get in, or use the official rank rather than a driver who approaches you inside the terminal. Buses run to the centre but are slower with luggage.
Trains connect Marrakech with Casablanca and onward to Rabat and Tangier; the station is in Gueliz, a short taxi ride from the medina. Buses and shared grand taxis cover the Atlas valleys and Essaouira, but for a three-day trip a booked day tour saves the planning.
If you are arriving from your home country, overnight flights from Europe and North America usually land in the morning, which lets you drop bags and start the medina the same day. Check your own flight times before fixing day one.
