Marinette
Give Marinette one night, not a base: the logging museum, the river island park and a supper club, then push on to Green Bay or the Upper Peninsula.
Marinette is a small river city of about 11,700 on the Menominee River, the border with Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It grew as a lumber town and still runs paper mills and a shipyard. There is one museum, one island park and a handful of supper clubs. Most travellers pass through on US 41 between Green Bay and Escanaba, or stop for a night on the way to Door County.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Cell coverage drops away from US 41, especially north into Marinette County toward Iron Mountain.
- Winter driving: US 41 and WIS 64 ice up; check conditions before a night drive.
- Many kitchens close by 21:00 and some supper clubs shut early on Sundays: check hours the same day.
A quiet small city; the real risks are winter driving, deer on US 41 at dusk and long gaps without cell service north of town. Downtown is fine on foot after dark.
