Mansfield is a 24,000-person town in Bristol County, 40 min by commuter rail from Boston and 25 min from Providence. Its one draw is the Xfinity Center, a 20,000-capacity open-air amphitheatre that pulls big touring acts all summer. Without a concert ticket there is little to hold you: a small common, a pond, a mall and a farm stand. Treat it as a concert night or a cheap rail-side bed, not a destination.

Get around
A car is the practical choice: I-495 splits the town and I-95 clips the northwest corner, with MA-140 north–south and MA-106 east–west. The MBTA Providence/Stoughton line stops at Mansfield station in the centre (zone 6, about $10.50 to Boston, 806 parking spaces). GATRA bus route 18 serves a few stops in Norton and is not useful for visitors. Rideshare is thin late at night after concerts.
