Mandal
Give Mandal one full day and one night in summer: town lanes, Sjøsanden beach, then west to Lindesnes lighthouse or Under. Skip it off-season.
Mandal is mainland Norway's southernmost town, a compact wooden town on the Mandalselva river with a river mouth, a long sandy beach at Sjøsanden and the Lindesnes lighthouse 20 km west. It is a summer place: the town fills in July, the shellfish festival runs in early summer, and most sights and eateries outside the centre close or shorten hours from September. One night covers the town; two nights let you add Lindesnes and the beach without rushing.

Get around
The centre is flat and walkable end to end in about 15 minutes. Local buses (lines toward Sjølingstad, Tregde and Lindesnes) cover the outer sights but run thinly on Sundays; a car makes the lighthouse and Spangereid much easier. Taxis wait near the bus terminal.

Mandal is a small, low-crime town and safe to walk at night. The real risks are cold sea water, fast-changing coastal weather and thin evening bus service outside the centre.
