Before you fly, install the five core apps and set up your payment method. Ride-hailing apps need a card or a linked wallet, and your bank may block the first charge if you have not set a travel notice. Do that at home, not at the airport.
On arrival, buy a prepaid SIM from GO, Epic or Melita at the airport or in a shop, or activate a travel eSIM. ID is required for a local SIM. Coverage is good on the main island, Gozo and Comino, so any of these options is enough for maps and ride-hailing.
For buses, Tallinja is the official app for the public network. Use it to check routes and times, and to buy or top up tickets where the app supports it (check). Buses reach most of the island, including Mdina, the Cottonera and the ferry terminals.
