Makale
Half a day is enough: see the Lakipadada statue and walk the market, then sleep in Rantepao 4 km north for more food and lodging options.
Makale is the administrative capital of Tana Toraja, a compact town with a market, a landmark statue and a few warungs. Most travellers use it as a quick stop on the way to Rantepao, which has more accommodation and restaurants. The surrounding mountains and rice terraces are the real draw.
