Maheshwar
Half a day is enough for the fort and ghats; stay one night if you want a quiet Narmada evening. Not a base for the region.
Maheshwar is a small town on the Narmada river, known for the Ahilya Fort complex and Maheshwari handloom sarees. Most visitors come from Indore (about 90 km) for a few hours. The fort, temples and riverfront are the main draw; there is little else to do. A single night at the Narmada Retreat adds a calm evening by the river.
