Madhubani
Half a day or a single night is enough: see the art, then move on to Darbhanga or Rajnagar.
Madhubani is the namesake town of the famous Mithila painting style, but the town itself has few sights. It works as a quick cultural stop or a base for exploring the Mithila region. Most travellers use it as a gateway to Darbhanga (30 min) or Rajnagar (palace ruins).
