Macuto
A half-day or one-night beach escape from Caracas: go on a weekday for quiet sand, skip weekends when the coast fills up.
Macuto is a beach town 10 km from Caracas airport, popular with locals for its promenade, seafood and weekend crowds. Most visitors come for a day trip or a single night. The town has a few museums, a colonial hotel and a lively seaside strip, but no major sights that demand more time.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Scams and watch-outs
- Weekends are very crowded; go on a weekday for a quieter experience.
- The coastal road can be affected by landslides during heavy rain; check conditions before travelling.
- Cash is king: US dollars accepted widely, but smaller vendors may not have change for large bills.
Macuto is generally safe during the day, but petty theft can occur on crowded beaches and at night. Avoid walking alone after dark on the promenade. The emergency number 911 is unreliable; have a local contact or your embassy's number saved.
One and two days
No timed day plan for Macuto yet. Suggested stay: 1 night. Build a day from the list below, mornings for the big sight.
