Lynton and Lynmouth
Spend a half‑day to a full day exploring the cliff railway, museum and coastal walk; add an extra night if you want a relaxed B&B stay.
Lynton and Lynmouth are twin villages on the North Devon coast linked by a historic water‑powered funicular. The main attractions – the cliff railway, Lyn and Exmoor Museum and the South West Coast Path – fit comfortably into one day, but a night in a local B&B lets you enjoy the seaside atmosphere and a sunset walk.

- Conversation: Weather is a safe opener; understatement and self-deprecating humour; avoid: Asking about salary or class
- Queues: Join at the back; avoid: Pushing onto buses or trains before others get off

- Nations: Call Scots Scottish and Welsh Welsh; avoid: Calling the whole UK 'England'
Scams and watch-outs
- Cliff railway may close in winter; check dates before travel.
- Roads up Countisbury Hill are steep and narrow – avoid if uncomfortable driving.
- Mobile 4G coverage is limited to EE and Vodafone; no O2/Three.
The villages are low‑risk; main concerns are steep roads, winter closures of the railway and occasional slip‑on rocks on the coastal path – watch footing and check opening times.
