The honest verdict

The old town sits on a rock above two river valleys, so distances are short but the hills and stairs are not. Public transport is free in second class, the airport is about 6 km from the centre, and English works almost everywhere. What goes wrong is timing: many museums close on Mondays, most shops close on Sundays, and weekday hotel prices follow business demand. Four areas cover a first visit.
