Luss
Give Luss 2–3 hours as a stop on the A82, not a night: the conservation village is 30–40 min of walking, then head for the hills or the water.
Luss is a conservation village on the west shore of Loch Lomond, about 450 residents, and the first sizeable stop heading north from Glasgow. Coaches pull in for photos and the gift shop, so the pier and Pier Road fill by mid-morning. The village itself takes under an hour; the forest trails above it, the waterbus across the loch and the Highland Gathering in July are what justify a longer stay. Most travellers see it as a half-day on the road to Oban, Fort William or Campbeltown.

Get around
Luss and Inverbeg are small and walkable, with a cycle path between them. Do not walk or cycle on the A82: it carries traffic at all hours. Sweeney's Waterbus crosses the loch April–September, roughly twice a day, linking Luss with Balmaha and, on one sailing, Rowardennan and Tarbet; bikes are carried.

- Luss campsite runs April–October with a two-night minimum: check before a one-night stop.
