Use Lurgan as a half-day stop between Belfast and Portadown, not a base: 2–3 hours covers the wide main street, Brownlow House tea rooms and the park.
Lurgan is a Plantation-era linen town 50 minutes by train from Belfast, laid out from 1610 with an unusually wide Market Street. The sights are modest and close together: a Georgian-style mansion with tea rooms, a large town park, and Lough Neagh nature reserves a short cycle away. Most travellers see it as a stop on the Belfast–Portadown line or a base for Oxford Island.
