Lüleburgaz
Stop for 2–3 hours off the Istanbul–Edirne road to see the Sokollu Mehmet Paşa complex, or skip it: there is no second sight worth a night.
Lüleburgaz is a farming and market town on the D100, 170 km west of Istanbul, and its one real draw is the 1560s Sokollu Mehmet Paşa Mosque complex by Mimar Sinan, with the Mimar Sinan Bridge and the Kadı Ali Mosque a short walk away. Buses from Istanbul run every two hours, so it works as a half-day break on the way to Edirne or as a cheap bed if you arrive late. Plan two to three hours on foot, not a night, unless you are breaking a long drive.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake; 'Merhaba' (hello) or 'Selamün aleyküm' in conservative areas; cheek kisses between friends of the same sex; avoid: Offering a hand to a conservative woman first — wait for hers
- Mosques: Covered clothing, headscarf for women, shoes in hand, quiet voice; avoid: Walking in front of people praying; visiting during Friday midday prayer
- Hospitality: Accept tea or at least a sip; bring sweets or pastries to a home; avoid: Refusing food repeatedly; showing the soles of your feet
- Politics and history: Listen; let hosts raise it; avoid: Opinions on Atatürk, the Kurdish issue, Armenia or Cyprus with people you just met
- Ramadan: Eat discreetly in conservative towns during the day; avoid: Eating, drinking or smoking in front of fasting people in small towns
- Gestures: A slight upward head nod with a tut means 'no'; avoid: The OK hand sign (can be read as rude) and a thumb between fingers
- Dress in town: Shorts are fine in Istanbul and resorts; longer clothes in the interior and east; avoid: Swimwear away from the beach
- Names: First name plus Bey (men) or Hanım (women): 'Ahmet Bey'; avoid: Using the surname alone
Scams and watch-outs
- The train station is 6 km south in Durak village: budget a taxi or dolmuş each way, and check return times before you leave town.
- The Zindan Baba Tomb has been closed at times after restoration: check locally before walking over.
- The Mimar Sinan Bridge carries live traffic with narrow sidewalks: cross with care, and use the D100 bridge 300 m south if you are unsure.
- Some local hotel and restaurant listings are outdated or dead: confirm the place is open before you commit.
Lüleburgaz is a low-crime market town and walking the centre in daylight is easy. The real risks are road traffic on the D100 and the narrow Mimar Sinan Bridge, unlit streets away from the centre after dark, and summer heat in July and August.
