Lucknow is a village of about 300 people on the Mitchell Highway a few minutes east of Orange, in the Central West of New South Wales. It has a gold-mining heritage site that opens on the first weekend of the month, a winery that takes tastings by appointment, and almost nothing else: no restaurants, no shops beyond a boot barn, and a handful of beds. Treat it as a half-day detour from Orange or Bathurst, not a destination in its own right.

Get around
You need a car. Lucknow sits on the Mitchell Highway (A32), a couple of minutes east of Orange and roughly 30–40 min west of Bathurst. There is no useful local bus; Orange has taxis and a town bus network, but neither reaches the village reliably. Driving is on the left; watch for kangaroos and foxes at dusk and dawn on the highway.
